Local Councils and the Internet of Things
How Local Councils can find the best tech provider/partner when going digital.
15:49 01 April 2019
In many parts of the UK, advanced technologies are being used to improve many local services. Internet of Things (IoT), smart devices and high-tech sensors, for example, are now being used for smart bin collections, efficient tax processing, smart streetlights and providing free WiFi services to communities.
Going digital can sometimes be considered as disruptive, expensive and require a ton of hard work for all parties involved. However, the implementation process can be made uncomplicated by simply partnering with the right tech provider.
Experience is everything when looking for a supplier. The first thing that local councils need to consider is the company’s years of experience in their field of expertise and proven track record of success. Have they handled the same project before? Do they have the needed manpower and equipment to carry out the task within budget and timeframe?
It is also important for suppliers to be extremely flexible. They must be more than willing to accommodate specific requests and make necessary adjustments when and as needed. In addition, they must have what it takes to future-proof all the systems that they implement to help local councils obtain return of investment as soon as possible.
