Amy Adams is set to play Lois Lane opposite Henry Cavill in the new Superman film.
The Academy Award winner will play Daily Planet journalist and Clark Kent's love interest in Zack Snyder's movie, which is due for release in December 2012.
Director Snyder said in a statement on 27 March:
"Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about.
"So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today.
"Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
The 36-year-old will have big shoes to fill when it comes to the iconic, as Lane has previously been played by Noel Neill, Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher and Kate Bosworth.
Adams and Cavill will be joined by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, who will play Kent's adoptive parents in the film.
