Following the news that Bernardo Hess, the former head of rival Burger King, was announced as the new chief executive of Heinz, McDonald’s have confirmed that it will stop using the ketchup after serving it for 40 years in its stores.
McDonald's said in a statement: "We have decided to transition our business to other suppliers over time.”
In February, Heinz was purchased by Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway and Brazilian investment fund 3G capital for £17.3bn. It was after the takeover that Bernardo Hess became the company’s chief executive.
"As a matter of policy, Heinz does not comment on relationships with customers," the ketchup-maker said.
