South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust will start offering wireless internet access to patients, clinicians and the general public by April 2018. The installation will start next month and will be carried out by IT service provider Daisy Group.
Paul Foster, head of IT services and systems development, said: “This work will provide our patients, service users and public with secure, stable, and reliable WiFi capability across the Trust sites, which will be consistent with the required national standards.”
NHS WiFi, which entered its first phase in early 2017, had already been installed in 991 GP practices across England. The second phase will be launched between 2018-2019 and will cover hospitals and secondary care providers. The free internet access will also be rolled out to mental health and community organisations.
Online access is delivered via an NHS.UK landing page. According to the trust, the service has received great feedback so far. At its Newton Lodge facility, service users were able to manage their bank accounts, bid for social housing and online from the wards.
