Restaurant giant McDonalds is taking advantage of technology to allow its customers to place an order at the comforts of their own home. The payment is processed via an app, which also provides customers a couple of options as to how they want to receive their food. Options include collecting via drive-throughs or through “curbside” delivery, wherein a staff brings the items to the car park.
At present, McDonalds smartphone orders are being trialled in the US cities of Salinas and Monterey. If successful, the company has confirmed plans for a widespread rollout not just in the US but also in Canada, Europe and in the UK at the end of the year.
The new services do not affect McDonalds’ pricing.
McDonald’s is not the first to offer mobile ordering options but the firm said that it is more concerned on doing the process right than being the first in the market.
“It’s better to be right than to be first to market,” McDonald’s Chief Executive, Steve Easterbrook,
Jim Sappington, McDonald’s executive vice president of operations for digital and technology, added: “We can’t impact the speed or the quality of our food.
“Our focus is to make the overall experience clearly better.”
