Sex and the City is heading back to the small screen for a new series, according to reports.
Bosses of the hit franchise are said to have met last week to discuss the new venture, with the show's star, Sarah Jessica Parker, agreeing to produce the show, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The actress, who played iconic columnist Carrie Bradshaw in the hit HBO series, is apparently keen to bring the show back to television after the less-than-stellar reception that Sex and the City 2 received.
A source told the newspaper:
"Ultimately Darren Star - the man who created the hit series - will have the overall say, but everyone is agreed a TV show is the direction they want to take the franchise in.
"Sarah Jessica Parker will be producing. She was worried about doing another film after the bad reaction to the Sex and the City 2 movie, but a TV show is definitely something she wants to happen."
The revelation means that plans for a movie prequel, telling the story of how the women first met, have been shelved.
The movie was set to star Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie, Blake Lively as man-eater Samantha Jones, Emma Roberts as Miranda and Selena Gomez as Charlotte.
The source added that the prequel is still going ahead, "but they want to make the TV series before doing another film."
