Shakira leads MTV nominations

Shakira and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to storm this year's MTV Music Video Awards after receiving seven nominations each.
The nominations were announced yesterday (31.07.06) by Beyoncé Knowles, as the music television channel celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Shakira and the Chili Peppers will compete for the prestigious Video of the Year prize, along with Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Panic! At The Disco.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been nominated for 'Dani California' and Shakira for 'Hips Don't Lie'.
Madonna has the second most nominations with six. As well as Video of the Year, her single 'Hung Up' is nominated for Best Female Video, Best Dance Video, Best Pop Video and Best Choreography.
Christina Aguilera is in third place with four nominations for Best Pop Video and Best Choreography in addition to Video of the Year and Best Female Video.
The artists appearing at the ceremony include Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, The Killers and Jack White's new band The Raconteurs.
Other videos nominated include Nick Lachey's 'What's Left of Me' which will compete with James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful', Kanye West's 'Gold Digger', T.I.'s 'What You Know' and Busta Rhymes's 'Touch It Remix' for Best Male Video.
Viewers will be able to vote for all the nominees on MTV's website until August 20.
The lavish event will be take place in New York's City Music Hall on August 31.
