Wi-Fi Direct
Wi-Fi Direct brings you an easy way to connect everything to everything else.

Wi-Fi Direct devices have been designed to connect to each other without the use of a router. These devices are using their own ad-hoc networks (work the same as Bluetooth) as and when required, allowing users to see which devices are available so they can easily choose which one they want to connect to.
Wi-Fi Direct comes via the Wi-Fi Alliance, the global industry association in charge of certifying Wi-Fi Kit. This provides users with an assurance that any Wi-Fi Direct enabled technology has been set to work with all the others without the need for special hardware.
The technology has been designed based on a simple idea: simple tasks need simple connections. It is password protected, just like your home network so unauthorised access can be avoided. It can pair devices using physical buttons or with PIN codes, QR codes or NFC.
In November 2011, it has been announced by the Digital Living Network Alliance, that Wi-Fi Direct has been included in its interoperability guidelines. Since then Google has added Wi-Fi Direct support to all versions of Android since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
