Smart speakers are some of the most highly anticipated addition to the smart home. That is why, it is no wonder why they have taken the center stage at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Although a great number of smart devices for homes have already made it to the market, there is nothing greater than a technology that allows you to talk to your devices so you can get them to do carry out certain tasks – think Apple’s Siri, Google’s Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa being incorporated into more and more consumer devices.
Being able to speak to a computer is certainly nothing new. When computers were first introduced into the market, software such as ViaVoice, Dragon Naturally Speaking and MacSpeak allowed users to interact with their devices. However, these software’s abilities were very limited and they are confined in just one room of the house.
When smartphones were invented, smart speakers became portable. Users can take them anywhere they go and use them anytime of the day. This technology is now incorporated in many smartphones and is being used as the users’ very own personal assistant.
This technology has also made its way to homes, thanks to the likes of Alexa and Google Home. With simple voice commands, these devices can provide you the information you are looking for, adjust your room’s temperature and even check out the content of your smart fridge.
