Hilary Swank scooped the Best Actress award at the 77th annual Academy Awards last night (27.02.05).
The beautiful actress, who looked stunning in an elegant midnight blue backless dress, walked away with the prestigious prize for her performance in 'Million Dollar Baby'.
Swank, who became a double award winner with her victory, beat off stiff competition from a host of top actresses, including Kate Winslet, for 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' and British actress Imelda Staunton.
The beautiful brunette, who previously won the Best Actress prize for her performance for 'Boys Don't Cry', looked astonished on hearing she had won.
She told the star-studded audience: "I don't know what I did in this life to deserve all this. I'm just a girl from a trailer park who had a dream."
Cate Blanchett picked up the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as screen legend Katherine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic 'The Aviator'.
On receiving her award Blanchett praised Hepburn - who was nominated for 12 awards during her career and won a record four prizes - saying: "Thank you, of course, to Miss Hepburn. The longevity of her career I think is inspiring to everyone."
