It’s a tragic Thanksgiving Day for those people in the USA affected by a vehicle pile-up on Thursday.
Two grandparents from Texas were killed in the collision which reportedly involved at least 140 vehicles. The incident happened on Interstate 10, about 80 miles east of Houston, in Texas, America. It is understood that 80 individuals were taken to hospital, some with serious injuries.
Rod Carroll, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, described the incident as ‘catastrophic.’ He said: "I've got cars on top of cars."
Although there were at least 140 cars involved in the collision, it is thought that officers who responded to the scene did not immediately realize what exactly they were dealing with due to thick fog.
Officers on the scenes confirm that they received generous help from people involved in the accident who were not hurt.
“It's just people helping people,” Deputy Carroll told KFDM-TV. “The foremost thing in this holiday season is how other travellers were helping us when we were overwhelmed, sitting and holding, putting pressure on people that were injured.”
