Vodafone is testing 5G in Newbury, which is one of only six towns or cities in the UK to benefit from the firm’s latest efforts. 5G is the next generation mobile network that offers ultra fast response time compared to existing 4G networks making it ideal for connecting traffic lights, machinery, and even healthcare systems.
Gabrielle Mancini, West Berkshire Council’s economic development officer, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for Newbury and we’re really excited about the opportunities this technology will offer our residents and businesses.
“The speeds and connectivity that will come with 5G will make Newbury an even better place to do business and will also bring about new possibilities for service delivery for us as a local authority.
“Not only this, but we see this move as yet another vote of confidence in Newbury from one of the district’s largest employers.
“Above all, this shows that local businesses agree that West Berkshire is well and truly open for business.”
