What is the Toyota Concept-I?

Toyota will soon launch cars that will be able to read the driver’s emotions using advanced artificial intelligence. It aims to keep drivers safe and alert to prevent road accidents. The firm is set to unveil its plans at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 28 in Japan.

 

One of Toyota’s upcoming prototypes, the Concept-I, will be fitted with cameras that will analyse the driver’s facial expressions. This allows the car to determine if the driver is anxious or sleepy and respond accordingly. A tense driver will feel their chair contract to mimic calming breaths while a sleepy driver will feel a buzzing seat that will jolt him or her awake.

 

If the car detects that the driver is in a dangerous situation, it can switch to automated driving. The car is also programmed to make detour suggestions based on the driver’s social media interests, conversation history in the car and GPS data.

 

Other concept vehicles that will be presented at the Tokyo Motor Show are a smart “mobility” car and a “walk” vehicle. The Concept-I Ride, which is essentially a scooter, is a two-seater smart car that would appeal to disabled and city drivers.
