Winter warmers: British leek season begins in November
Try recipes with leeks for great tasting food that does not cost a fortune...
13:50 01 November 2012
November to April marks the new British leek season. With food prices shooting up for the last couple of months, buying seasonal British produce can help.
Not only will it save the consumer money, but it will also help a cook to prepare meals that are delicious as well as affordable.
If you don’t have an idea on what leek recipes to try, there are recipes that can feed a family of four for less than £5. These include:
- Spiced leek, potato and lentil soup,
- Squash, leek and lemon risotto,
- Leek, chorizo and goats cheese tortilla,
- Pasta with leeks, chilli and prawns,
- Hearty leek and lamb cobbler,
- Bacon wrapped chicken with leeks, peas and basil.
The great recipes were developed by BBC Good Food Magazine, former editor Jane Hornby.
She is also the author of “Good Food: Budget Dishes” for affordable and easy to prepare solutions for the whole family.
See british-leeks.co.uk for more recipes.
