Best selling author

Frey's book 'A Million Little Pieces' (2003) was a memoir of his recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction. His story had Oprah Winfrey in tears and she invited him on to her chat show causing the touching story to become a No 1 best seller.

In 2006 a website decided Frey's story didn't add up and they investigated. It turned out that his past problems were not as serious as his book implied. Oprah said she felt "really duped" and the publisher offered all buyers a refund. Frey said: "I've never denied I've altered small details."
