London's most notorious pubs
The Lamb and Flag (Covent Garden, West London)
This pub, the oldest in Covent Garden used to stage bare-knuckle prize fights in the 17th century. The bouts took place on the cobbled front yard and more commonly in the back room which became known as the 'Bucket of Blood'.
In 1679, the poet John Dryden was brutally killed by hired thugs in the alleyway at the side of the pub.
