NME's 10 best albums of the noughties
3. ‘XTRMNTR’ – Primal Scream’ (2000)
The hard-edged and destructive ‘XTRMNTR’ (try adding vowels to the title) saw the band move away from the dance scene for a rockier, more overtly political stance drawing on industrial rock. The band targeted the fractured facets of modern society, including the government, police and other failing institutions.
While their opus ‘Screamadelica’ from 1991 saw the ecstasy movement through rose tinted glasses, here the band doesn’t even want to see the horrors outside.
