When sci-fi remakes get it right
'The Fly' (1986)
What's it about? After a fly gets trapped in one of his teleportation machines, an eccentric scientist's body matter slowly turns into that of the fly with horrific consequences.
Why's it better? The 1958 version was a classic B picture limited by censorship standards of its era, but David Cronenberg's explicit make-up effects give this terrifying resonance that turns the otherwise flimsy plot into a long and excruciating nightmare.
