North Sea flood
The North Sea flood is the officially the worst flooding disaster in British history. Miles of coastline was damaged and sea walls were obliterated. The official death toll on land from this tragedy is estimated at 307. Further loss of life exceeding 230 occurred in the North Sea's waters. The ferry MV Princess Victoria was lost in the channel and many trawlers sank.
