Some historians believe that this suited the emperor's purpose. He didn't like the Christians and he was keen to build a new palace. Or is this just an example of an early conspiracy theory? We'll never know the truth. Today, even though somebody benefits from a set of less-than-ideal circumstances, that doesn't mean they're to blame for them.
