Corrie's Cilla and Les decide to get married - as a way of getting presents from their neighbours.
The nightmare couple return from Spain completely broke and with a serious case of the post-holiday blues.
Fiery redhead Cilla, played by Wendi Peters, is delighted to be offered a job on the Street - until she realises that she will be working in a chip shop.
After a bad day serving up fries and facing her neighbour's taunts, Cilla returns home to Les with a plan to get them on route to a better life - by getting married.
She reckons a wedding is a good way to cash in on the generosity of their friends and persuades Les, played by Bruce Jones, to propose.
It doesn't take much to convince the loudmouthed lout, and he soon gets down on one knee to make Cilla an honest woman.
However, locals soon cotton on to the pair's real reasons for getting hitched - and spot the financial motive behind their declarations of love.
"It smacks far more of a scam than two people truly in love," an ITV source told the Daily Star.
