John Travolta and Kelly Preston's marriage was saved by counselling.
The Hollywood star, who has two children with his actress wife, is convinced their 14-year relationship would not have survived if they hadn't sought professional help.
He said: "I know for a fact that we wouldn't be together if we hadn't had counselling. We had it every six months for 12 years.
"Relationships grow and change. If you don't update your relationship, you grow apart. We got to know each other over the years. Now we don't use counselling as much.
"But sure, I could have seen us separating without counselling."
Travolta says many of their past arguments were about how to bring up their two children.
He added in an interview with Britain's Night and Day magazine: "I'm liberal with them and Kelly's more restrictive, especially at bedtimes. She's more like Mary Poppins with the kids and I'm more like Dick Van Dyke! My feeling is it's not important if they go to bed at 9.30pm."
Travolta also revealed he and Kelly, 42, are desperate for another child.
The actor said: "We'd like one more. We'd use IVF. It's not a big deal any more. Children are such a joy."
