Trace how you spend your money
You spend hours at work and work hard to earn that money you have now and if you are not aware of how you are spending it and, how you should be spending it, you will face financial imbalance. The best way to become a careful spender is that you should stop overthinking about your financial problems and start taking an action. Most of the times we simply run worst scenarios in our minds that don’t even happen, as Mark Twain said that ‘I have had many troubles in my life, some of that happened’, here he is suggesting that we waste our time in thinking about things that hardly become true.
Keep a notebook in which you will write about the money that you are spending and on what you are spending. You can also make notes on your phone or download a tracking app. Once you are aware of your expense, you can plan your next step.
Plan you budget
When you jot down your expenses, the next step that you need to take is to plan your budget. Make a list of things that are necessary for you, and remove the unnecessary stuff from your bucket list. Plan your budget smartly, you do not need 4 pairs of jeans if 2 can do the job. Careful budgeting will require your attention to detail, you are aware of things that are an absolute necessity and things on which you just waste your money.
The key to good budget planning is to declutter everything that is not required or your life is not going to suffer if you don’t spend money on that stuff. Make a priority list and plan your budget around that.
Lower your electricity bills
Well, most of the time we are not aware of how much electricity we are wasting and we end up paying huge bills that could’ve been avoided. Most of us don’t pay attention to those unwanted lights that are always turned on even when no one is using them. Look around before you start working if there are any extra or unwanted lights or fans that are turned on or not. You can also save more electricity if your family decides to work in one area, this way you will not be turning on those extra lights or air conditioners and you will be able to save on your monthly electricity bill.
If we shed light upon the expense that we do on our junk food, we will all be guilty. We spend an ample amount of money on ordering food or eating out. We prefer to eat out because it set us free from additional work. If you start cooking at home, you will see that you can save hundreds of dollars each month. The best alternative for food is your home-cooked meals, it will help you to save more and it will be more beneficial for your health.
Shop after making lists
When we plan to do our groceries or shopping we simply go and shop. When we don’t make a list of things that we need, we will not waste our money on things that we THINK WE NEED. When you don’t have a list in your hands, you end up buying a lot more because you are not clear in your head about the things that are required you waste money on things that you will not even need in future. Keep a list of stuff that you need to buy and only focus on that, it will save your time and money.
Prefer to use cash over credit cards
One way to save money is to have cash. When you will use cash, you will think about when it will end and you will eventually end up saving more. You can also set a limit on your credit cards but the best way is to use cash instead.
If you want to reduce your monthly expenses, it is in your hands. Once you devise a plan, you can act upon it and save more money by reducing unnecessary stuff.
