The late Edward Woodward played McCall a brooding former secret agent who offers his skills free of charge to those who have trouble that needs shooting. His newspaper ad (which is somewhat of an A Team rip-off) reads: "Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer."
McCall gets even with hoodlums, rapists, murderers and other undesirables in this violently gritty 1980s thriller series. Woodward also played a similar hard-bitten character in Callan from 1967-1972.
