Chloe Sevigny once sold all her hair to a wigmaker.
The 'American Psycho' actress was so strapped for cash she shaved off her locks for $500.
The 31-year-old star revealed: "I shaved my head when I was 17. I had really long hair down to my waist. I sold it for $500 to a famous Broadway wigmaker.
"Caucasian hair is rare in the wig trade, and my hair was blonde and had never been dyed. I probably could have got a lot more money for it. I should have got $1,000!"
Sevigny - who is currently starring in the TV series 'Big Love', as a polygamist's third wife - says she would need to be paid a lot more money nowadays to shave her hair.
She told the New York Daily News newspaper: "If you have to shave your head, you get an extra pay cheque. But this time it would not be $500 - it would be $500,000!"
However, Sevigny admits she would be reluctant to shave her hair off, like Natalie Portman for 'V For Vendetta', because she doesn't think being bald is a good look for women.
She said: "My mother and my brother were so thrilled when I had my hair shaved off because it had always been so greasy. They said I never looked better than when I had a shaved head. I would never get a buzz cut again."
