Wirral Digital Telecare

A new innovative scheme is set to transform the quality of telecare services delivered to Wirral residents.

Wirral local council has confirmed their decision to invest up to £1.5million in next-generation telecare services designed to prevent health crises instead of focusing on reacting to such events.

The local authority has partnered with telecare provider Medequip and care technology specialist Alcuris as it works toward transferring residents from analog telecare systems to new next-generation services. The scheme is hoped to reduce hospital admissions by detecting early signs of health deterioration.

Graham Hodkinson, Wirral's director of adults, health and strategic commissioning, said: "The shift to digital technology presents us with valuable opportunities to reduce hospital admissions for these residents, benefitting thousands of family networks.

"Adapting to new ways of working will help us to keep people safe and well, while retaining their independence by enabling them to live in their own homes for longer.

"We have great confidence in this project, working alongside Medequip and Alcuris, to test a new approach to telecare which, can be rolled out to benefit residents across the borough."
